I work privately with all my clients with an option of a small group of up to 3 couples when friends are pregnant together. Unlike the NHS who offer classes 15-20 couples per group.

My specialism is working with couples who have medical conditions and guiding them through the different choices that are still available to them as it’s your body and your baby. You do not need to be swept away by the medical model and be a patient. You can take control of your choices and decisions and ask for the care you deserve.

I have two beautiful births both classed a medicalised births but I felt fully in control, happy, relaxed and able to go with the decisions I made on the day. With all the birth preferences in place so that, everyone knew my wishes and this is what I also do for my clients as the medical professionals are not mind readers.

I speak to couples sometimes who are not even aware that they have choices in their care and birth and beyond. Perhaps this is how you are feeling that you are not being given the full menu of options you are only being shown the takeaway menu not the À la carte with specials options that is available to everyone all you need to do is ask.

Possibly you have heard from other they were not allowed to use a facility or option due to their medical conditions and later they found out that this was a possibility if they had known differently. “When we first approached Bex about the Wise Hippo Course I was a scared and stressed pregnant Mum, mainly due to a pretty traumatic birth many years before (my big baby was 18!) But immediately after meeting Bex my confidence about giving birth started to grow.

Great Course!

Was very sceptical when I started, but my wife wanted to try it and I thought anything that can help her would be for the best. I expected a bunch of rubbish and a very impractical “belief system” on how there will be no pain and every woman will laugh her way through the pregnancy. Even though there is a lot of self-belief and mind conditioning for the “right words to use”, it is nothing like I expected. The course try’s to remind you that women have been doing this for century’s without medical intervention, and doesn’t suggest that you don’t have any medical assistance if you need it, but gives you loads of options to remind you that it is your birth and you are in control. The calming techniques used were helpful and practical.

From a Father’s point of view, I had no idea what to expect and men haven’t been playing an active role in births for that many years, so wasn’t too sure who to ask for first-hand experience and practical advice. The course helped, it was still a bloody shock though, not going to lie, but I was less useless and had an idea of what to do.

Mama’s Instinct travels to you and provides antenatal courses in the comfort of your own home. The other option is you come to space that I use for working with clients in Crayford.

Your positive birth journey has never been so simple in helping you become so calm and relaxed. I work with many couples in the daytime or evening so that they can access the antenatal classes.

As parents who already have children find arranging childcare to attend antenatal classes can be problematic and add extra cost to having classes in the comfort of your own home takes this stress away. I am happy to work in the evenings being a night owl and social butterfly.

I also offer weekend antenatal courses so that my working clients can also have their partners attend classes as this is an important factor as there are a lot of tool for the birth partners role to help them feel prepared to support you and in turn give you more confidence in them too. They will not be on the sideline not knowing what to do!
